CAULIFLOWER MUSHROOM

Pictured above is a cauliflower mushroom
I found in the woods next to our property.
It brought back memories of when growing
up in northern California during the fall
my dad would take us mushroom hunting.
It was fun finding the different kinds that
were edible. After we got home we would
clean the mushrooms (scrape off the dirt)
then my dad would slice them up and we
kids had the job of spreading them on screens
that my dad had made to go on a rake that
he also made to go over the stove to dry the
mushroom. After they were dried they were
sacked up in large cloth sacks and we waited
for the buyers from San Francisco to come up
and purchase what they wanted for their
restaurants. It was a good way to make a
little extra money. Of course my mother would
save some for our own use. She made the best
spaghetti sauce.

What a wonderful memory to have!

I've seen a lot of unusual mushrooms around here lately... I guess because of all the rain. It's fun to observe and photograph them.

That is a beautiful mushroom and an even more beautiful story. Thank you for sharing some of your childhood with us.

Aren't mushrooms amazing? This one is beautiful. When I get home I will have to look for one.
I haven't seen this one around our area but we have many different kinds so I'll keep an eye out for this one. Thanks

I love this story! So many people, when I was growing up, had so many special talents. Now they are all lost. it's such a shame. My cousin though still goes out in the woods and picks her own mushrooms. I hope you are having a good day Madeline.
