"The wind that makes music in  November corn is in a hurry.   The stalks hum, the loose husks whisk skyward in half-playing swirls, and the wind hurries on....A tree tries to argue, bare limps waving, but there is no detaining the wind."     ~Aldo Leopold~

"The wild November came at last beneath a veil of rain; The night winds blows its folds aside, her face is full of pain.   The latest of her race, she takes the autumn's vacant throne:  She has but one short moon to live, and she must live alone"   ~Richard Henry Stoddard~

Hope your November is a blessed one.

Here's hoping all the little ghost, goblins, witches have a fun time out trick-or- treating tonight.   Stay safe and have lots of fun and get lots of goodies.  I have not had any trick-or-treaters in quite a few years not many houses to go to where I live.   When my children were young they and yes even I looked forward to this holiday.   But alas children grow up and marry have kids of their own and they grow up.   I still enjoy decorating for Halloween and will continue to do as long as I can.

It has been a rainy day here today,   so I started my holiday baking.   These pumpkin breads have been securely wrapped and put into the freezer until Christmas when they will be given as gifts.
I still have more to do but have plenty of time to get them done.

There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in October."  ~Nathaniel Hawthorne~

"The sweet calm sunshine of October, now warms the low spot; upon its grassy mold the purOple oak-leaf falls; the birchen bough drops its bright spoil like arrow-heads of gold."
     ~William Cullen Bryant~

"October's the month when the smallest breeze gives us a shower of autumn leaves.   Bonfires and pumpkins, leaves rushing down - October is red and golden and brown."  ~Can teach songs~

"October gave a party; the leaves by hundreds came - the chestnuts, oaks, and  maples, and leaves of every name.   The sunshine spread a carpet, and everything was grand,  Miss Weather led the dancing, Professor Wind the band."     ~George Cooper~

Have a wonderful month of October.

                                       Autumn, Queen of Year

When pumpkins are so yellow and the vines with grapes abound, when the melons are so mellow and the nuts fall to the ground; when persimmons lose their bitters, and the apples are so red; when we love to eat corn fitters since the roasting ears have fled; when vacation days are over and the children go to school, they no longer play in clover, but must learn "Arithmos-rule," when weird Halloween's most naughty elves with gnomes and sprites appear, while fat Thanksgiving fills the shelves - tis Autumn, Queen of Year.        ~Winifred Sackville Stoner, Jr.~

                                   Autumn Fires

In the other gardens and all up the vale, from the autumn bonfires see the smoke trail!
Pleasant summer over and all the summer flowers, the red fire blazes, the grey smoke towers.
Sing a song of seasons! Something bright in all!  Flowers in the summer, fires in the fall.
       ~Robert Louis Stevenson~

"By all these lovely tokens September days are here, with summer's best of  weathers and autumn's best of cheer."      ~Helen Hunt Jackson

"When the goldenrod is yellow and leaves are turning brown - reluctantly the summer goes in a  cloud of thistledown.    When squirrels  are harvesting and birds in flight appear- by these autumn signs we know September days are here."    ~Beverly Ashour~

"Try to remember the kind of September when life was slow and oh so mellow.
Try to remember the kind o September when grass was green and grain so yellow.
Try to remember the kind of September  when you were a young and a callow fellow.
Try to remember and if you remember then follow-follow, oh-oh."
~lyrics by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt~

Have a blessed and wonderful month of September.

Saturday, August 1, 2015

"August rushes by like desert rainfall, a flood of frenzied upheaval, expected, but still catching me unprepared.   Like a match flame bursting on the scene, heat and haze of crimson sunsets.   Like a dream of moon and dark barely recalled, a  moment, shadows caught in a blink.   Like a quick kiss; one wishes for more but it suddenly turns to leave, dragging summer away."
    ~Elizabeth Maua Taylor~

"Whilst August yet wears her golden crown, ripening fields lush-bright with promise; summer waxes long, then wanes, quietly passing her fading green glory on to riotous autumn."

       ~Michelle L. Thieme~

                         Our Independence Day
With our first fourth on that seventh month began
a declaration of how we would forge our life
in signature, John Hancock did lead by action
the beginning of a nation which has firmly stood

As we stop to embrace our independence Day
we should reflect back from this sixth millennium year
looking to the many trials we have faced as a country
most vividly, to that infamous September morn

We have never, and never will succumb to threat
Our rigid foundation is of, by, and for the people
We heed the message of President John F.  Kennedy
it is what we do for our country that stand us all

As good citizens we put our trust in God, and each other
and one flag we stand, united for all the world to see
our Stars and Stripes from the Old Glory we so revere
and how gallant are those  who march with our colors
As Americans we hold freedom as a certainty
Our bravest have given this all to this end
If not for their willingness, we would not be
The cost of liberty demands this commitment

So many have endured the precious loss of loved ones
We must stay aware of the tragedy they lived with
For they, more than any, feel the total cost of sacrifice
Praise their fallen heroes, they left freedom  for us

My dear Americans, as we take time to celebrate
this independence held so deep in our hearts
I hope the following thoughts of America
bring forth emotion, for the USA we love

We shall always be 'the land of the free'
We shall always be 'the home of the brave'
We shall always hear 'God Bless America'
We shall always love 'Mom and apple pie'
~Roger J. Robicheau~

Have a wonderful and safe 4th of July!

Wednesday, July 1, 2015

"We go in withering July to ply the hard incessant hoe; panting beneath the brazen sky we sweat and grumble, but we go."    ~Ruth Pitter~

"Answer July--
Where is the bee-
Where is the blush-
Where is the hay.
Ah, said July-
Where is the seed-
Where is the bud-
Where is the May-
Answer thee - me-"
~Emily Dickinson~

My dad has been gone for quite some time but I still have happy memories of the things we used to do when I was young.  He took us fishing, deer hunting, and mushroom hunting.  He was a hard worker and a wonderful father.   Happy Father's Day dad.
