AFGHAN

I had some thread just laying around taking up
room so I crocheted another afghan. It is a bit
larger than the last one I crocheted for my friend's
daughter that is expecting her first baby. This
one I may keep unless one of my daughters wants
it. With the weather finally feeling like fall it will
be nice to wrap up in when reading or watching
television.

PICNIC AT SPRINGVILLE PARK

The first day of autumn was a beautiful day so
my husband and I decided to go on another picnic.
We stopped and got some fried chicken and 2
sides and took off for the small town of Springville,
which is not far from where we live. We had our
lunch by this babbling brook pictured above. After
lunch we strolled around the park which has a very
nice walking trail.

Another photo of the babbling brook with a
bridge across it.

Lake with a pretty fountain.

Ducks taking it easy on the hot day.

One of the memorials dedicated to wounded
combat veterans.

The other memorial was dedicated to the servicemen
and women who served our country.

Same memorial just the other side of the one
pictured above.

They have a real nice playground for the kids.

JOHN HENRY--STEEL-DRIVING MAN

This past Saturday my husband and I went to the
town of Leeds, Alabama to see the play "Listen to
That Cold Steel Ring" written by Leeds native Marie
Cromer. It was all about John Henry from boyhood
to a grown man who worked on the railroad. Although
he was born a slave his owner took him under his wing
and when he was old enough took him to work on the
railroad. The story (whether it be legend or truth) is
that John Henry was in a contest against the steam drill.
He won but died from exhaustion. The photo above is
of my husband, myself and the man who played John
Henry as a grown up. All the players were hometown
people and all did a fabulous job. We thoroughly enjoyed
the play, it had some comedy and of course at the end
tragedy.

Plaque about John Henry. If you click on picture
you will be able to read most of it.

Some of the singers. They did a great job of
singing old time gospel songs.

The lady who played the mom of John Henry
on the right and the other lady was a midwife
who told her that John Henry would die with a
hammer in his hand.

John Henry as a young boy with his dad and mom.

John Henry as a teenager with his mom and dad.

John Henry as a grown man with with partner
that held the rods that went into the rails.

This scene brought tears to my eyes. John
Henry after he beat the steam drill with his
wife, the owner of the plantation and his partner.

The end of the play. Dead being covered up
by his partner. They say he is buried next to
railroad.

The plaque about the depot there in Leeds, which
now is a museum about the railroads.

Photo of the Depot.

This used to be a hotel across from the depot
now is a home.

The livery another building across from the
depot. It also has railroad information and
other things one can buy books about railroads
etc.

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF FALL

Pumpkins in the cornfields gold among the brown.
Leaves of rust and scarlet trembling slowly down.
Birds that travel southward. Lovely time to play.
Nothing is as pleasant as an autumn day.
~Author Unknown~

Hope where you live fall has arrived. Where I am, summer is still hanging on.

SHRINE OF THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT

We took another drive after running some
errands today. We decided to go once again
to visit the Shrine of the most Blessed Sacrament
located in Hanceville, Alabama, the home of
our Lady of Angels Monastery. Mother Angelica
is the nun responsible for this beautiful Shrine.
There are 32 nuns in our Lady of the Angels
Monastery ranging in age from 20 to 70 years of
age. There are also 6 brothers who help Mother
Angelica with the manual labor, landscaping, building
and lawn work.

Gate way to the Shrine.

The Shrine.

Got this picture of the Shrine off the Internet.

Doors to the Shrine.

Sign tell us no photos allowed in the Shrine.

I got this picture off the Internet because we
are not allowed to photograph the inside. It
really does not do it justice, you have to see it
in person. It is really beautiful.

The workmanship is so beautiful. Like I said
it really has to been seen in person.

boy Jesus.

This is the gift shop. The structure looks like
an old medieval building

Manager scene in its own little structure. One
can go in and light candles and just sit and admire
the workmanship of this very beautiful Manager
scene. If you would like more information on the
Shrine or Mother Angelica just google: Shrine of the
most Blessed Sacrament.
